The Queens of Elmarlay

The Story Of Elmarlay.

Where it all began good question if you asked me eight years ago did I see myself breeding and showing cats, I would have probably laughed.

So where did it start, well let me explain my mother wanted to start breeding cats as over the years we had enjoyed breeding from the many pets that had come and gone, we had always been an animal mad family in some shape or form. Mom had decided that she wanted a pedigree cat, so the search began and after spending many hours looking through books of various breeds we kept coming back to the Birman. A local breeder advertised a litter of kittens, she had two little girls available who were breed quality so I took mom to look at the litter a Seal & Blue Point, at this point I had no intention of having a cat let alone breeding or showing. The Blue girl radiated for my lap and then my head and proceeded to purr so loud you just couldn’t ignore her, I did try as I was quite happy with the dogs, or so I thought!!!

This is the interesting bit as mom chose the seal girl and well the blue girl chose me and she was coming home with me no matter what. Well this little Girl was to become Nustoal Starlight Dreamer by her posh name but she will always remain as my Ella. Sadly Ella is no longer with me but her legacy lives on and her picture can be seen on my Memories page where she will always remain as well as in my heart.

From Ella the story continues with the rest of my cats, some have been shown some haven’t but they each have a special place in the Elmarlay Family. Ella has also had an influence on my GCCF registered Prefix as the ‘EL’ is taken from her name so she will always be part of my cats. The Marlay comes from the name of my street with a little adjustment, Ella was my 1st Birman and the house I bought is my 1st home so it made sense after all my 1st choices were turned down to combine the two and create “ELMARLAY”

ELMARLAY ENCHANTRESS MIYA (13c1)

"MIYA"

Miya is Ella's daughter from her litter with Ch Sucette Mister Softee. Miya is a lovely seal point girl with such an expression that enchants you into falling for her, hence her name. I have wanted to keep a seal girl for some time that carries both blue and chocolate and this year I got my wish.

Miya is growing up to be a chip off the old block, she certainly is her mothers daughter she has the same inquisitive nature and independence. Looking into Miyas eyes is like looking into her mothers eyes when she was a kitten seven years ago.

ELMARLAY WORDSOFA LULLABY (13c2)

" Dream"

Dream is also one of my homebred girls She is the Daughter of Miya and Amisti Kirstavin Charming, she is developing into a stunning girl but I think she will be late to fully mature Dream has a calm temperament but still has a great deal of love to give her favourite trick is walking between your legs and seeing how many times she can trip you up getting from one room to another. Dream will be another future breed girl for Elmarlay, and I look forward to seeing the results later next year.

Dream tried the show circuit but she decided it wasn’t for her as there was far too much noise she took to hiding under her blanket. So she is staying at home with her best friend Sharnie

GRAND CHAMPION ELMARLAY LUNAR MOON (13c4)

"LUNAR"

Lunar is our star !!! Lunar has many achievements; her most memorable has to be her “Best In Show Female Kitten” win at the Birman Cat Clubs 2005 show this was only her 2nd show and speechless is an understatement !!

Lunar has followed this up by gaining her champion status in three consecutive shows before her 1st birthday and is my 1st home bred champion and also the 1st champion I have owned.

Lunar is Ocean’s daughter from her 1st litter and Ella’s grand daughter and has inherited there laid back nature.

ELMARLAY COSMIC STARLIGHT (13c13)

"Sharnie"

Introducing Sharnie, she is the 2009 daughter of Lunar with the help of Demilune Tormist Mr Oliver (13c11). I had intended to keep a daughter from this mating I had hoped for a dilute tabby or a dilute solid but we have no influence of what the kittens come out like and to be honest I am not disappointed.

Sharnie is suitably show marked but her development has been slow so I have not rushed her on the show scene, she has been shown twice as a kitten and as a young kitten her results were less than positive so a few months away she returned in early December and had a positive day, her results can be seen on the Role Of Honour page.

I am taking her back out soon as an adult but I do think it will be a slow road as she is a big girl but she hasn’t reached her full potential and she may not get there till she has had a litter of kittens. Watch this space.

"Phoenix’

Introducing Phoenix as she is known to her friends, my long awaited red girl. Phoenix is a sweet cat but she is quite shy around people she doesn’t know, she is show marked but wont venture onto the show scene as I feel it will upset her as she like’s her familiar surroundings. Hopefully in the near future this beautiful girl will become a mom.

Another Thank You to Audrey Saye of Esaya Birmans for entrusting this sweetie to my care I will treasure her dearly.

Phoenix is blood typed as A/b

siberians

Why a Siberians – well I have been looking at having one for about three years after first meeting them at my Micro-Chipping course one of the other people on the course bought two handsome boys along and well that was it. I was intrigued by this breed and after bending many Siberian Breeders ears about them up until now trying to build a better picture of this breed. Well 2008 has seen Zahara join the Elmarlay madhouse.

Siberians remain to be quite a new breed in the UK and come in many colours including Colour Points. Further information on the History of the breed can be found at www.siberian-cat-club.co.uk

ZAHARA

Esaya Zahara Of Elmarlay

“Zahara”

Zahara is my 1st Siberian and boy has she come and made a grand entrance to Elmarlay Household. The Birmans didn’t quite know what this little brown whirlwind was!!!!!!!!

Zahara has been shown under GCCF and has obtained enough Merits for the breed to make the progression to the next level so she has done her bit in promoting this wonderful breed further in the UK. Zahara doesn’t like travelling so after five shows she has retired to concentrate on the next chapter. I hope that in the near future Zahara will have a litter of her own.

Zahara is a Brown Spotted Tabby whose pedigree is from pure Russian Lines. She has a loving and playful nature and boy can she Purr!!!!!!!!!!!! Another big thank you to Audrey Saye of Esaya for allowing Zahara to join me here at Elmarlay.

ESAYA BWYTCHING-ELMARLAY

“WYTCH”

Wytch is the younger half sibling of Zahara and has joined us recently she is still a baby and is finding her feet. She is an interesting character she resembles a Lemur as she is so agile and loves climbing and if food is involved it is a bonus. Wytch will be out in a few months on the show bench, strutting her stuff and casting a spell or two on the many people she meets. Why Wytch well she is black cat and with her white tip to her tail she can cast a spell on you!!!

All Blood typing has been completed by UC Davis laboratory by swab testing further information can be found on their website.
